As part of RDS Global’s ongoing commitment to make a positive impact on our local communities, Managing Director Phil Harvey joined businesses across the region in a sponsored sleep-out last month, raising awareness and much needed funds for Derby-based homeless charity, the Padley Group.
Firstly, we would like to thank everybody who sponsored Phil. We were truly overwhelmed by the sheer number of family, friends and people we know within the business community who took the time to listen to our cause and donate. The money you have all helped to raise (£8,000 in total from all businesses and individuals involved) will enable the Padley Group to continue its fantastic work, aiding many of our city’s most vulnerable people.
This year it was reported that Derby’s homeless crisis had reached a record high, rising by 162% since 2010. Meanwhile, it’s estimated that more than 250,000 homeless are currently sleeping rough in the whole of the UK — that’s a quarter of a million people who won’t have immediate access to hot food, warmth or shelter this Christmas.
Thankfully, organisations like the Padley Group are doing everything they can to change all that; providing Derby’s homeless community with food, clothing and support into accommodation.
However, these organisations do rely on outside help to keep their services open. The Padley Group in particular is massively dependent on the support of local businesses, such as ourselves, ever since restructuring within Derby City Council and the NHS led to cuts in public funding. That’s why it’s ever so important we all continue to raise awareness and help out with financial assistance at every possible opportunity.
It’s largely thanks to events like the sponsored Sleep Out that the Padley Group is able to hire qualified staff, caregivers, and keep their facilities heated and available for use all-year-round.
So once again, thank you to everybody who has already showed their support. At this time of year it’s easy to take the simplest of comforts for granted, while others will be forced to endure another harsh winter on the streets.
If you would like to support the Padley Group further, food and clothing donations are always welcomed, especially during the Christmas period, but it’s by getting involved with fundraising events that really do make the biggest difference.
